Wednesday 20th February

The last day, and a long one too...another 6.30 start. We had a long
way to travel and needed to be in Kottayam by 3pm to congregate for
the last leg of our journey, through the town and out to our
accommodation for the last night.

The start was beautiful, riding up through the tea country again,
Then through the Idukki wildlife reservethe third reserve we have been
through.

After that though, it was heads down and pushing on to the finish. I
think the temperature soared to a new high...horrendous humidity and
hot air blasting in your face as you rode along. Even at 100kph there
was no respite from the heat.

Rather bizarrely our meeting point was a brand new car showroom, with
air cond and cold drinks. After a quick stop to get everyone
together, it was time for the final leg...a convoy through town and
for the first time, the trffic gave way to us...partly i think out of
curiosity about the whole scene, and partly because the sheer force of
numbers made it very difficult for anyone to push through.

And at the end....a traditional Keralan band and a giant , regally
attired elephant.

the venue was beautiful, and a welcome bit of luxury after two weeks
on the road. It was, of course, a big party night...no more riding,
just lots of farewells to be said. The pool party went on until at
least 4am, but by then the lurgi was beginning to take its toll as
person after person spent more and more time on the toilet! After two
weeks of little more than a mildly upset stomoach, this was was
hitting us hard.
